Deeply connecting to Nature – that has been a recurring theme in season one of this podcast. Matt takes it to a whole new level, both with his determination to conserve the planet and to immerse himself into nature whenever he can.

In this conversation, we talk about traveling as a spiritual act, reconnecting to our wild self and how to remember a sense of wilderness when we return home.

Matt is a lifelong conservationist, global citizen, and consciousness crusader. He has worked professionally as a tropical field biologist and conservationist in Latin America, and in the international forest products certification industry. His recent experiences also include forays into the nature tech and innovation spaces related to conservation and sustainable development. With over 20 years of experience teaching yoga, Matt has led retreats with his wife, Sara Hess, in Thailand, Mexico, and Bali.

A classically trained religious studies scholar, Matt deeply values Hindu and Buddhist wisdom literature. Nature is one of his primary gurus, providing endless inspiration and lessons. However, his two-year-old daughter and the experience of fatherhood offer him daily glimpses of awakening and transcendent joy beyond what he could have ever imagined.
